The Government of India introduced the new education policy, National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The policy proposes the revision and revamping of all aspects of the education structure, including its regulation and governance, to create a new system aligned with the aspirational goals of 21st-century education while building upon India's traditions and value systems.
Under the New Education Policy 2020, the University Grants Commission (UGC), in concurrence with the Ministry of Education (MoE), has launched the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) scheme. ABC is an initiative associated with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Enables students' mobility across Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Helps integrate skills and learning experiences into a credit-based system.
Encourages students to pursue an interdisciplinary approach in their studies.
Allows students to pause their education and resume it later according to their choice and convenience, thereby supporting reduced dropout rates.
